Nuclear medicine in Ukraine: new opportunities for diagnosis and treatment

First Deputy Chairman of the SPFU Denys Shuhalii joined the meeting of the Subcommittee on Cancer Prevention and Control of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Care and Health Insurance. The discussion was attended by representatives of government agencies and a wide range of experts from the medical and scientific community representing leading medical institutions of Ukraine.

The meeting was devoted to the discussion of the Concept for the Development of Nuclear Medicine in Ukraine. It was presented by theState Enterprise "USIE Izotop", which is managed by the SPFU. They also discussed the issue of introducing the production of radioactive medicines in Ukraine.

Thanks to this Concept, Ukrainians will have access to the latest and most affordable radioactive medicines for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. In particular, oncological, cardiovascular, endocrine, nephrological, neurological and other diseases. The State Property Fund also supports this initiative. After all, its goal is to improve the quality of people's lives.

The key elements of the Concept include:

1.       Setting up a network of territorial cancer diagnostic centers equipped with compact cyclotrons.

2.       Establishment of an industrial cyclotron center on the basis of State Enterprise "USIE Izotop".

3.       Opening of the first laboratory for quality control of radioactive medicines in Ukraine in accordance with GMP standards.

The Committee members expect the Concept to be approved and further supported by the highest state authorities.
