Vitaliy Koval, Chairman of the SPFU, visited the State Enterprise "Irkliyivskyi Herbivorous Fish Hatchery"
State Enterprise "Irkliyivskyi Herbivorous Fish Hatchery" is a full-system farm specializing in full-cycle freshwater aquaculture from breeders, eggs to commercial fish, with a total area of 6976.8 m².
The purpose of its construction was to stock the Kremenchuk Reservoir, located next to the Dnipro River, with two-year-old herbivorous fish to combat algae and replenish fish stocks. Herbivorous fish, such as white carp and silver carp, are introduced into the reservoir and consume green algae, which helps cleanse the ecosystem and prevents water blooms.
Currently, the state enterprise has 55 ponds for various purposes with a total water surface area of 1,157.3 hectares, of which 797 hectares are intended for commercial fish farming. The object of privatization was granted the right to permanently use six land plots.
The company is actively operating and has potential for development, especially given the interest of regional state administrations in solving environmental problems. Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Poltava Regional State Administrations are planning to launch programs to finance the stocking of water bodies, which opens up new opportunities for the nursery.
"It is an example of effective corporate governance and today performs social and environmental functions," Vitaliy Koval said.
The team of Irkliyivskyi Herbivorous Fish Hatchery, which consists of about 70 people, is ready for fruitful work. The main tasks of the company are to repair and modernize the existing facilities and implement energy efficiency measures. Each employee's contribution increases the state budget's profit.
